Editorial policy
Our guides cover safety, money and health-adjacent topics, so we hold every factual statement to a named, linked source.
How a page is made
- We pick a real homeowner question, usually one people type into search.
- A draft is written with the help of AI writing tools, working from the source pages it cites.
- A separate fact-checking pass opens every cited page and confirms each number, threshold and instruction. Claims the source does not support are rewritten or removed.
- Our editor reviews the page and publishes it with the date it was last updated.
Which sources we use
- Government agencies first: EPA, CDC, FEMA, the National Flood Insurance Program, state insurance regulators and state agencies.
- Standards and university sources, such as industry water categories as published by university safety programs, and university extension services.
- Cost guides only when the page shows a date, and we name the source and date beside the number.
Every source is listed on the page that uses it and on our sources page, with the date we checked it.
What we do not do
- We do not give medical advice. For health questions about mold or water exposure, talk with a doctor.
- We do not give legal or insurance advice. Your own policy and your insurer decide what is covered.
- We do not publish reviews or ratings of providers, and we do not rank them.
Expert review
Our pages are not yet reviewed by a licensed restoration professional or industrial hygienist. When one reviews a page, their name and credentials will appear at the top of that page.
